Patrick Joseph McGoohan est né le 19 mars 1928 à Long Island (New York). Ses parents, qui avaient émigré aux Etats-Unis en 1925, revinrent en Irlande alors que Patrick avait 6 mois. Son père reprit la ferme qu'il avait laissée quelques années plus tôt. Dans une famille irlandaise, il était coutumier que le premier garçon devienne prêtre et Patrick se destinait à entrer dans les ordres. Il abandonna cette destinée vers la fin de son adolescence, mais est resté toujours très croyant.
Ayant quitté l’école à 17 ans et demi et ne désirant pas aller à l’université (bien qu'ayant réussi les examens d'entrée à Oxford), il exerça une foule de petits boulots : il travailla tour à tour dans une manufacture de câbles, fut assistant comptable dans une banque, gérant d’une ferme, etc. Il conservait de son adolescence un attrait pour les planches et, un jour de 1947, entra dans un théâtre de Sheffield qui s'appelait "The Playhouse". Il y exerça une multitude de petits boulots: décorateur, costumier, éclairagiste, remplacement d’acteurs malades... C’est vers la période très active du milieu des années 50 que McGoohan rencontra beaucoup des acteurs de théâtre qu’il allait rappeler pour Le Prisonnier.
C'est la télévision qui va en fait lui apporter la notoriété : elle lui offrit le rôle de John Drake, le héros de la série Destination Danger, un succès commercial colossal aux Etats-Unis.
Acteur atypique, si McGoohan jugeait certaines histoires trop violentes et sexy, il les faisait changer. Il a même refusé le rôle de James Bond car il n'appréciait guère Terence Young. S'étant essayé à l'écriture et à la réalisation, il décide de monter son propre projet. Il était un bourreau de travail perfectionniste. Après le tournage de la série, il déclara au magazine américain Pace en 1969 "Le Prisonnier était une tentative - qui a échoué réellement - de faire quelque chose de légèrement différent à la télévision et en même temps, d’exprimer ma position sur un sujet qui me tient particulièrement à coeur : la mise en numéros, la médiocrité, le nivellement des gens par l’acceptation. Il me semble que la rébellion de nos jours, c’est se rebeller contre l’acceptation".

Actor Ricardo Montalbon was well-known for welcoming guests to Nirvana as Mr. Roarke on the late 1970s-early 1980s show Fantasy Island, but today it was he who said farewell. Montalbon passed away this morning in Los Angeles of old age.

In addition to his role on Fantasy Island, Montalbon enjoyed a splendid film career, battling Captain Kirk in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan as Khan ("Khaaaaaaaaan!"), battling Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun, and doing whatever he did in Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams.

His acting career started in the early 1940s in Mexico, but he eventually joined Hollywood and put together an amazing list of credits, including Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission Impossible, I Spy, and Hawaii Five-O Recently, he did voice work for Kim Possible and Family Guy.

Montalbon also championed the rights of Latinos, founding the Nosotros Foundation, which aimed to improve the opportunities for Latinos to find work in Hollywood.

Un prêtre géorgien ordonne la destruction de tombes arméniennes dans l’église de Norashen

Le 16 novembre, le prêtre géorgien Tariel Sikinchelashvili a chargé des ouvriers de raser les tombes de Mikhail et Lidia Tamamshev.
Cet acte barbare a outragé les arméniens, qui ont exigé de laisser les tombes à leur place. Cependant, le Prêtre Tariel a répondu en les insultant. Lors de l’arrivée des représentants de l’Église Apostolique Arménienne et du parlementaire Van Bayburt, le prêtre géorgien a déclaré qu’il a déclaré qu’il ne voulait juste que déplacer les pierres tombales pour « les nettoyer ».
Les policiers ont fait une main courante de l’incident.
Un représentant du médiateur de la République géorgienne était présent.
L’église de Norashen a été construite en 1467 et rénovée plusieurs fois depuis. Pendant l’ère soviétique, l’église a été transformée en lieu de stockage des archives. Depuis 1989 les géorgiens ont intensifié et multiplié leurs actions visant à s’approprier l’église pour la transformer en une église orthodoxe.

S’exprimant sur les relations turco-arméniennes il a déclaré « Notre position en la matière est claire : il ne devrait y avoir aucune frontière fermée entre des pays voisins au 21e siècle. La coopération régionale peut être le meilleur moyen pour établir la stabilité. La partie turque suggère de former une commission qui étudierait les faits historiques. Nous ne sommes pas contre établir cette commission, mais seulement quand la frontière entre nos pays sera ouverte. Autrement, cela peut devenir un moyen de prolonger la solution de la question pendant de nombreuses années. Dans l’avenir j’ai l’intention d’entreprendre de nouveaux pas pour normaliser les relations arméno-turques. Recemment les autorites armeniennes lancaient un procedure d'expulsion contre un résident de la diaspora d’origine arménienne, ancien heros de la guerre du Karabagh.

A quoi devoons-nous attendre ? Quel est le prochain acte - d'une portée symbolique et qui ira une fois de plus à l’encontre de nos principes - que nous prepare ce gouvernement inapte ?

"Les autorités arméniennes soutiennent toujours notre communauté dans les situations de catastrophe" a déclaré du rédacteur en chef du journal Azdak basé à Beyrouth Shahan Kandakharyan.

L’aide rendue par la division du Moyen-Orient du Ministère arménien des Affaires Etrangères est un témoignage brillant de cela selon le journaliste.

« L’ambassadeur d’Arménie au Liban, Vahan Ter-Ghevondian, qui a achevé sa mission dans le pays, a été le premier diplomate à être reçu par le nouveau Président [du liban] Michel Suleiman et décoré avec l’ordre suprême du Liban » a-t-il précisé.

Tucsonan' Bardizagtsi won't rest until Congress recognizes slaughter of Armenians

The stories Aram Chorebanian's mother told of her Armenian childhood during the final years of the Ottoman Empire were filled with blood and brutality.
Zevart Chirinian was 10 years old in May 1915 when she watched a Turkish soldier slice open the stomach of her pregnant 17-year-old cousin, chop off the head of the fetus and finish by decapitating the mother as well.
So, please, don't try to tell Chorebanian that now is not the right time for the U.S. House of Representatives to pass a declaration recognizing as genocide the slaughter of 1.5 million Armenians between 1915 and 1923 in the Ottoman Empire, today's Republic of Turkey.
"It's a simple acknowledgement," said Chorebanian, a Tucson real estate broker and member of the Armenian Cultural Society of Tucson.
It would seem so, even though it appears that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has backed out of her promise to bring the controversial measure to a vote.
With the exception of the Turkish government, the world largely agrees that what happened in Ottoman Turkey starting in 1915 to the minority Armenians was genocide. More than 20 countries have officially recognized it as such.
The historical record, including survivor testimony, photographs, film and other documentation, shows the Young Turks government first disarmed the 40,000 Armenian men serving in the Turkish Army and assigned them to slave labor battalions. Those who survived the back-breaking labor were shot. Then the government rounded up and killed Armenian political and intellectual leaders.
Mass arrests of Armenian men throughout the country and murder by death squads followed. Finally, the government began "relocations" of the women, children and elderly, marching Armenians off to desert concentration camps and allowing them to die of thirst, hunger, exhaustion and brutal treatment by their guards.
Corpses littered the landscape.
The Chirinian family was to be deported to the Syrian desert, but Zevart's father was able to bribe the Turkish soldiers with gold he had hidden in his cummerbund into letting the family go free. They hid out with a friendly Turkish family for a few years and later returned home to the village of Bardezag, inland of the Sea of Marmara
"Their home had been confiscated by Turkish families. They had to start all over again," Chorebanian said.
About 16 family members were killed during the period, he said.
Chorebanian said his grandfather on his father's side baked bread for the army and got wind of what was to come. He sent his sons and their cousins to America in 1914.
Henry Morgenthau Sr., the U.S. ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 1913 to 1916, described what was going on in a 1915 telegram as "a campaign of race extermination." The International Association of Genocide Scholarship calls the evidence "unambiguous."
The Turkish government denies there was a genocide, insists the death toll was far lower than 1.5 million and attributes those casualties to the turmoil surrounding the collapse of the empire.
The Bush administration asked Pelosi to back off on seeking a vote of the full House - and she capitulated, as she lost support among Democrats for the nonbinding resolution - because of Turkey's importance to us in the war against terror.
Turkey, which is apoplectic over the proposed resolution, is an essential ally. About 70 percent of U.S. air cargo to Iraq passes through Turkey.
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, an Arizona Democrat, voted for the resolution when it came up Oct. 10 in the House foreign affairs committee, despite concerns about the timing.
"I had to vote my conscience, quite frankly. I felt that someone like myself, who is Jewish, that I have a moral and a personal obligation to condemn acts of genocide no matter where they happen or when they occurred," she said.
Giffords said she doubts Turkey would follow up on threats of "punishing" the U.S. were the resolution to pass.
They get a lot from us, she said. In 2004, Turkey received the third highest amount of U.S. military aid of any country worldwide, Giffords said, adding that Congress is considering legislation to give three naval vessels to Turkey.
The U.S. has been helpful in working with Turkey to gain its acceptance into the European Union. And, she said, as a neighbor to Iraq, Turkey shares an interest with the U.S. in a safe and stable Iraq.
Chorebanian called the Turkish's government's unwillingness to acknowledge the genocide "an open wound that's lasted more than 93 years."
There are few survivors of the atrocities still alive. Chorebanian's mom died in 2001. Perhaps Turkey believes this demand for acknowledgment, which has persevered over several American presidential administrations, will die with them.
Not likely.
"I owe it to my mother's memory to push this," Chorebanian said.

Lors d’une conférence de presse Alvard Petrosian, membre du Parlement sous l’étiquette de la FRA, a précisé qu’elle considérait cette décision comme juste. Elle a affirmé que le parti ne soutient pas des individus mais des plans d’actions. « La FRA est un parti qui a dû beaucoup sacrifier. Ce qui est important pour nous ce sont les programmes pour l’action et non les individus et le nouveau gouvernement va poursuivre ce que nous avons défendu depuis dix ans » a-t-elle dit.
Alvard Petrosian a critiqué l’atmosphère de mal et de mensonge dans le pays, mais a ajouté qure tous les arméniens sont parents et que cela doit devenir le point de départ pour tous.
« Nous devons être debout côte à côte parce que les positions dans le gouvernement ne sont pas éternelles » a-t-elle indiqué précisant que les Arméniens ne doivent pas être divisés dans « des tribus ayant chacune leur chef ». « Il y a beaucoup plus qui nous unit, que ce qui nous divise et la victoire suprême appartient à tous et non à ceux qui sépare les individus ».
« Il y a des gens qui n’acceptent pas Serzh Sarkisian, mais il a une extraordinaire et intéressante personnalité. Je veux que mon pays soit gouverné par un homme extraordinaire et pas par un homme plat » a-t-elle conclut.

Rediscovering Armenian Bardizag

Please check the proceeding of the lecture delivered by Ara Melkonian at Armenian House in London on 27 Jan. 2008. I would like, of course, to congratulate the author for the excellent work and admit I was moved while reading.
One might find strange the article is missing references to famous bardizagtsis like: Hadji Artin, Dr. Garabed Hatcherian, Kurken Alemshah, Bedros Dourian, and Zabel Essayan.
I should also add a few comments as concerning some bardizag particularities also:
- The so-called port of Seymen or Iskeleh was the last stop of a ferry-boat line starting from Istanbul. A picturesque description of the trip can be found in Chambers' In an Anatolian Valley , Bouregy & Curl, Inc. (New York), 1955.
- The nickname was a stong tradition - to refer to individuals - not only in Bardizag but in all the Ottoman Empire. It originated most likely from a muslim, rather than Armenian, tradition. Nicknames are very used in the nowadays independant Republic of Armenia, though. Some French Armenian might rememenber the story of 'Cheval Vartan' - named so as he owned a horse. Today nicknames are a very popular feature not only in Turkey but also in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan.
- According to the Soviet Armenian Encyclopaedia, the Bythinian village of Bardizag was always administratively dependant from the vilayet of Sivas (Sebastia) during the ruling of the Ottoman. I always wondered if this was another confusion with the original Bardizag village in Sebastia as mentioned by the author.
- It is interesting to mention than in nowadays' Turkey there are several villages bearing the name of Bahcecik in different provinces. It is likely, or at least plausible, that all these villages are former Armenian Bardizags. This could be explain by the fact that, either original Sebastia's Bardizagtsis have founded several Bardizag villages in the western territory of Asia Minor, or that Small Garden (i.e. 'Bardizag') was a a common name for green areas at the outskirts of main cities.
- Historical fact is that the Bythinian Bardizag by its fame has erased the trace of other Bardizags.
- The move of Armenian populations towards the West of Asia Minor described by the author has probably started even earlier than the 16th century. Unfortunately, the period beginning near the end of the fifteenth century may rightly be called the darkest age of Armenian cultural life. While Europe was being flooded with the light of the Renaissance, Armenia was being bathed in bloodshed, as a result of the invasion of the Turks, Tatars and Mongols.
- I believe that refugees came - not only from Agn - but from all Anatolia. Agntsis were probably the first. It is common knowledge that the last refugees came from Hadjin.
- It is commonly agreed among Istanbul scholars that the language spoke in Bardizag was amongst the purest grammatical form of Western Armenian. It might even have influenced the classical Western Armenian spoken in Bolis. The contribution of Bedros Tourian and Zabel Essayan, both descendants of Bardizagtsis, in the shaping of the wrttten form of modern western Armenian is well-known. The opposite is also true like in most cross-fertilization phenomenom (Bardizag was a famous summer resort less than 100km from the eastern suburbs of the capital).
- Indeed it did not prevent Bardizagtsis from being perfectly bilingual.
- I think the importance of the Armash monastery in the life of Bythinia Armenians is understated in the expose. The pilgrimage to Armash was an essential event in the year as important as Christmas or Easter.
- As concerning surrounding villages, one important fact to mention about the 'Laz Armenians' is that they eventually converted to Islam and were protected during the 1915 events and not deported. The most ancient families established in the outskirts of modern Bahcecik are probably so-called Laz Armenians.
- As mentionned by the author, the 'Ishkhans' did not play a prominent role in the life and administration of the village after the second half of the 19th century.
- Although non-armenian population lived around Bardizag - the 5 villages detailed by the author - it is worthy to mention that the heart of Bardizag was exclusively Armenian - a very rare situation in Ottoman Turkey. With 10,000 inhabitants, Bardizag was a large village then.
- Ancestral life was harsh but the proximity of the sea allowed men to go fishing in the morning and work in the fields in the afternoon. The extreme fertiltity of the soil allowed various culture. Bardizag was famous for its grapes and Serkefirs harvest.
- Another custom worth mentioning in Bardizag - that is specific to a few other Armenian villages also - was for young men to go outlaw to escape military service (after 1907 constitution), avoid tax collections perceived by by the bey or any vendetta organised by the agha. The outlaws were organised in small groups living in the surrounding forests of mount Minas and coming back regularly to their families in the village when deserted by Turkish gendarmerie. Eventually, after payement of a bribe, amnesty was reached with the bey or agha and outlaws could come back to their families. Chambers, in his book In An Anatolian Valley, describing the murder of an outlaw by Turkish gendarme, gives a moving description of this event.
- As I mentionned Mount Minas, I might as well say that Bardizagtsis pretend that, on a clear weather day, one can see both the Black Sea and Marmara from the top.
- Typical Bardizagtsis male would be name: Vartan, Hagop, Sahag, Sarkiss, Taniel or Mardig, while women would classicaly be named Serpouhie, Macrouhie, Azniv or Manouchag.
- It is always a strong pride and dignity for Bardizagtis to recall that, in the village, all children were schooled and educated according to European standards. This is a unique case for a Christian village in Ottoman Turkey. After the genocide and during exile, Bardizagtsis, always proud and cultured, eventually gained reputation as pretentious and arrogant personnalities.
- Bardizagtsis were also popularly characterized as Tsoug-oudor [fish-eater] and Khoumardjis [gamblers]. They were also reputed for their dry wit sense of humour.

An international congress entitled “1908-2008: Centennial of the Young Turk Revolution” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the second Constitutional Period of the Ottoman Empire will be hosted by The Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University in Ankara, during 28-30 May 2008.

This presentation by Ara Melkonian will be the first in our new series, "The Lost Armenian Communities of Ottoman Turkey." Melkonian will use a rich tapestry of sources to visit Bahchejik, the ancestral village of his family, in western Turkey. He will recall the memory of his village for a new generation of Armenians to connect with their ancestral past.

Ara Melkonian is a Fellow at the Gomidas Institute, London, where he specializes in Armenian-English translations and works on other special projects. His recent work includes translations of Vahram Dadrian’s Forsaken Love (Taderon Press, 2006) and Raffi’s Tajkahayk, (Taderon Press, 2007). He just began a database series on Armenian Orphans in the Aftermath of WWI. He is the author of “Memory Faultlines” which appeared in the July 2006 issue of Ancestors, the journal of the British National Archives.

A Yerevan-based American-Armenian political analysts spoke today about weak signals coming from the Turkey’s government and its army, which he said indicate that they have started to comprehend the wisdom of lifting the blockade of Armenia.
The political analyst, Richard Giragosian, called these signals ‘revolutionary.”
Speaking to a news conference Mr. Giragosian argued that the passage of a resolution by the US Congress recognizing the 1915 Armenian genocide would have no impact on Washington’s relationships with Ankara ‘because they are already bad.’
Mr. Giragosian further said that Turkey and Armenia can normalize their relations only through boosting economic ties, because ’Turkey needs Armenia as an economic partner to stabilize the situation in its eastern Kurdish-populated areas.”
Mr. Giragosian also reiterated fears that Turkey’s accession to EU with its 75 million population may pose a serious threat to Europe’s integrity, but he said Armenia would benefit from a Turkish EU membership, ‘because Ankara would have to reduce its military spending and cut its armed forces.’
According to Mr. Giragosian, Armenia may act as a go-between between Iran on one hand and the USA and Europe on the other hand.

After a recent post (July 28, No comment serie: The last of the famous), a friend of mine asked me who was Zengi and what was the link between myself and Zengi. The picture was taken in the very place where Zengi was supposely assassinated. Hope this will clarify the situation.
Imad ad-Din Atabeg Zengi (al-Malik al-Mansur) (also Zangi, Zengui, Zenki, or Zanki; in Turkish İmadeddin Zengi, in Arabic: عماد الدین زنكي) (c. 1085–September 14, 1146) was the son of Aq Sunqur al-Hajib, governor of Aleppo under Malik Shah I. His father was beheaded for treason in 1094, and Zengi was brought up by Karbuqa, the governor of Mosul.

Zengi became atabeg of Mosul in 1127, and of Aleppo in 1128, uniting the two cities under his personal rule, and was formally invested as their ruler by the Sultan Mahmud II of Great Seljuk. Zengi had supported the young sultan against his rival, the caliph Al-Mustarshid.

In 1144 Zengi besieged the crusader County of Edessa. Edessa was the weakest and least Latinized crusader state, and Zengi captured it on December 24, 1144. This event led to the Second Crusade, and later Muslim chroniclers noted it as the start of the jihad against the Crusader states.

Though he continued his attempts to take Damascus in 1145, Zengi was assassinated by a Frankish slave named Yarankash in 1146. The Christian chronicler William of Tyre said that he was killed by a number of his retinue while he lay drunk in his bed.

Zengi's sudden death threw his forces into a panic. His army disintegrated, the treasury was looted, and the crusader princes, made bold by Zengi's demise, plotted to attack Aleppo and Edessa.

He was the founder of the eponymous Zengid dynasty. In Mosul he was succeeded by his eldest son Saif ad-Din Ghazi I and in Aleppo he was succeeded by his second son Nur ad-Din.
Zengi was courageous, strong in leadership and a very skilled warrior according to all of the Islam chroniclers of his day. The conquest of Edessa being his greatest achievement. These same chroniclers however, also relate Zengi as being a very violent, cruel, and brutal man. Muslims, Byzantines, and Franks all suffered at his hands.
“The atebeg was violent, powerful, awe-inspiring and liable to attack suddenly… When he rode, the troops use to walk behind him as if they were between two threads, out of fear they would trample over crops, and nobody out of fear dared to trample on a single stem (of them) nor march his horse on them… If anyone transgressed, he was crucified. Un Algérien de 40 ans a été tué vendredi gare du Nord par des policiers lors d'un contrôle d'identité
Quatre fonctionnaires du Service régional de la police des transports (SRPT) effectuent une opération de contrôle d'identité gare du Nord. Vers 19H20, ils se trouvent sur la mezzanine de la gare, à proximité des entrées B et D du RER et face aux voies 42 et 44, lorsqu'ils aperçoivent un homme assis sur des marches.
Après un aller-retour, ils constatent que l'homme est toujours au même endroit, l'air absent, prostré, et décident de contrôler son identité en le conduisant sur la mezzanine, a raconté à l'AFP le parquet de Paris.
L'homme les suit sans problème mais arrivé face à un magasin de sport, il accélère subitement son pas, plonge sa main droite dans sa veste et se retourne en braquant un policier avec un pistolet, dont les caractéristiques n'ont pas été précisées.
Trois des fonctionnaires s'écartent de sa ligne de tir en lui demandant de lâcher son arme. Mais l'homme ne répond pas et fait feu en direction de l'abdomen du quatrième fonctionnaire resté face à lui. Ce policier a confié aux enquêteurs qu'il s'était vu mort, a-t-on précisé de même source.
Une flamme est sortie du canon de l'arme de l'agresseur mais aucun projectile n'est parti, a expliqué le parquet.
Une policière qui se trouvait de côté a alors fait usage de son arme de service blessant vraisemblablement l'homme à la jambe. Mais ce dernier a continué à manipuler son arme.
Deux ou trois de ses collègues ont alors ouvert le feu et l'ont mortellement atteint au thorax. Transporté dans un état grave à l'hôpital Bichat, dans le XVIIe arrondissement, il est mort dans la soirée.

Un pan d'Histoire vu par une petite histoire
1915. Dans une petite ville de Turquie, une famille arménienne ouvre sa belle demeure pour les funérailles du patriarche. Assadour, le fils aîné parti à Padoue depuis des années, revient pour l'occasion et tous préparent son accueil. Personne ne semble conscient du destin tragique qui va bientôt frapper toute la nation arménienne...

C'est comme ça qu'est decrit le synopsis du film. Il y a longtemps que je voulais le blogger.
Tout d'abord grand merci au frères Taviani (auteurs il y a quelques années de Good morning Babylonia, c'est pas rien), pour ce film émouvant et pour sa justesse (pour des non armeniens ....). Et un grand merci aux bloggers et internautes pour avoir souligné à quel point ce film donnait à réflechir par rapport aux positions de la Turquie actuelle.

Je n'en dirais pas plus, car bien évidemment pas objectif. Je dirais juste: Allez y nombreux, precipitez vous sur le DVD à sa sortie ..... Grand Film !!!

La compagnie française d’assurances Axa vient de publier la liste de ses clients assures dans sa filiale turque jusqu’en 1915 et qui furent victimes du génocide arménien. Les proches de ces victimes qui avaient souscrit une assurance-vie pourront signaler leurs droits auprès de la compagnie jusqu’au 1er octobre 2007. Born in 1923 (probably in Bolis), Alice knows about Bardizag - like all of us - mostly what her parents told. Though, she visited the village with her husband and a group of Bolis Armenians years later.

The evocation of bardizagn' "claire fontaine" - "They had a big spring (well), all of us uses to go there to get water...with the girls, in a group" Alice's mother used to say - speaks by itself.

Alice finally had to leave Turkey in the 70's. She lives in Melbourne. Bardizagn' armenian is the only language she speaks.

Further to the commemoration ceremonies or meetings I have personally been able to take part on April 24th, I must say that I have been quite in disgareement - not with the tone - but with the underlying meaningful core ideas of various speeches held by officials of Armenian diaspora in the region of Lyon, France.

Key quotes as I registered them: " There will be no reconciliation without dialogue (Decines, France, April 29th)". " To establish a real dialogue, 2 parties should be involved (Lyon, France, April 24th)".

I think the key finding of 2007 can be summarized as follows: "1,500,000 + 1". If Hrant Dink's murder has proven us one thing is that there is no reconciliation possible.

As a matter of fact, what is unforgivable cannot be forgiven. We would be lying to ourselves and to the world if we pursue in this direction. No one can deny that We have an historical repsonsability in front of all citizens from all nations around the world. We can mislead the entire world. Whatever Turkey does or does not do, there is no dialogue possible.

There can be no reconciliation.

L’histoire des Arméniens de la Nouvelle-Djoulfa commence en 1603 lorsque Shah Abbas, roi de Perse, décide de déporter les Arméniens de Djoulfa (situé actuellement au Nakhitchevan – Azerbaïdjan) et des provinces avoisinantes vers sa nouvelle capitale, Ispahan, qu’il vient de créer. Ce point culminant des guerres entre l’Empire ottoman et l’Empire perse au XVIIe siècle entraîne la déportation de 300 000 Arméniens en Perse.
À Ispahan, ils participent au développement de la nouvelle capitale en créant la Nouvelle-Djoulfa au sud du fleuve Zayendeh-Rud qui traverse la ville. Leur présence est active dans l’architecture, la peinture, l’artisanat et le commerce. Pendant quatre cents ans, ils maintiennent leur identité chrétienne en symbiose avec l’environnement islamique et établissent des liens culturels, artistiques et commerciaux jusqu’en Europe, en Amérique du Sud, aux Indes et en Extrême-Orient.
L’exposition est composée principalement de photographies (anciennes et récentes), d’estampes, de tableaux et de gravures qui représentent la vie sociale et religieuse de la Nouvelle-Djoulfa. I think the incredible document "Staline" on the 6th Channel yesterday evening was visually very impressive. Please forget about the comments, I am talking about the images. One must admit colorization reduces the time distance between us and what happened some 60 years ago.
To show the difference, I attached a "black and white" video which seems to be coming from early ages compared to what was on the air yesterday.
As concerning the comments (I agree something has to be said), representing staline as the "red tyran" without any subtility, I do not want to make judgement there. We are in a society where communication tools [images, sounds, news, tracks] have become fmcg products. As information messages are becoming more numerous everyday, they are also becoming much simpler. At one point, when history and historical truths/facts are concerned, this leads to caricature.

As Armenian just passed law on dual citizenship, I was wondering what the homeland is planning for Iraqi-Armenians.
Will it be like always ? Do they have to consider they have nothing to hope concering any help from the new "old country" ?
Two years ago, Vartan Oskanyan, RA Foreign Ministers, proposed to Iraqi-Armenians to fly to Damas and contact the Armenian Consulate there. He promessed the consulate would "try to help". I am asking: is that a way we to build the Armenian state ?
Armenian should be the homeland of all Armenians around the world, and especially the one who are living tough time in their countries of residence. Shouldn' it ?

Dans son dernier editorial au Figaro, Il nous presente la Turquie comme la seule civilisation ayant réaliser l'amalgame entre l'Occident et l'Orient.
Je passe sur les details: "la toute nouvelle et bien remarquable diplomatie saoudienne", " triumvirat réformateur qui occupe à présent le devant de la scène à Riyad, constitué du roi Abdallah et de ses deux demi-frères, Saoud, le ministre des Affaires étrangères, et Turki, l'ancien chef des services de renseignement", etc... C'est sur les triumvirats ne rappellent pas des bons souvenirs a tout le monde.
Il conclut enfin que: "seuls les Turcs et les sunnites arabes hanafites et chaféites pourront garantir le tournant anti-intégriste de l'Arabie saoudite. Cela se prononce en clair, Empire ottoman. Peut-être ce mirage se dissipera-t-il lui aussi ; il n'empêche, il demeure beau et apaisant dans une région qui en a bien besoin".
Ce qui me ramene a poser la quesion suivante: Combien touches-tu Alexandre Adler ? Combien as-tu facture cette fois-ci ? Combien la Turquie te paie-t'elle pour defendre sa politique ?

The government, after 15 years of independence of Armenia, finally granted us with the eternal right to become citizens of Armenia.

On Tuesday February 27th Armenian Parliament adopted a bill, which supposes introduction of dual citizenship institute in the country. Presenting the bill Minister of Justice David Haroutunian said, according to the document Armenian citizens can admit citizenship of another country, which does not mean that it results in loss of Armenian citizenship. Besides, the minister said the legislative pack regulates issues of granting Armenian citizenship. Particularly, among other things, Armenian citizenship can admit those, who have reached 18 years old able to explain themselves in Armenian after getting introduced with the Constitution of the country; persons who have married with an Armenian citizen, as well as people who have performed exclusive services to Armenia; Armenians by origin.
According to the minister all persons with dual citizenship must informed about it the plenipotentiary body of the government. Otherwise, those who occupy or are trying to occupy certain posts will face criminal punishment, others-administrative fine.
The bill also regulates issues of passing military service of persons with dual citizenship. Particularly, they are freed of military service in Armenia if they have passed military service in other countries for at least 12 months, and alternative service for at least 18 months.
The minister informed that according to the bill persons with dual citizenship can participate in elections on the territory of Armenia. Haroutunian also said the President, Parliamentarians of the National Assembly of RA and members of the Constitutional Court cannot have dual citizenship.

Lu dans Libé du 12/02/07 : Michel, 35 ans, a été victime d'injure raciale. Et s'est fait virer.

«C'est une collègue qui m'a prévenue : un manager de ma boîte de logiciels informatiques m'aurait traité de "Sale négro". C'était il y a deux ans, elle ne m'avait d'abord rien dit. Mais, en avril dernier, elle a décidé de partir de l'entreprise et a lâché le morceau. J'étais moi aussi manager commercial, embauché dans la multinationale depuis neuf ans. Mes résultats ont toujours été très corrects, mes objectifs toujours dépassés. Je décide d'abord de ne pas faire de vagues, je signale juste à ma direction, par lettre, que j'ai été victime d'injure raciale, sans dénoncer mon collègue.
L'été passe, je reviens de vacances, le service commercial où je travaille a été réorganisé. On m'apprend que mon nouveau supérieur... sera désormais le collègue qui m'a insulté. Je dis immédiatement au service des ressources humaines que c'est impossible, que ça pose, je me souviens de mes mots, "un gros problème de confiance"... Et je demande à la DRH de mener une enquête interne sur l'affaire de l'injure raciale. En fait, l'échange a eu lieu entre deux collègues par messagerie informatique instantanée.
Aucune trace informatique n'est restée. Mais le collègue à qui il a envoyé le message informatique a témoigné de l'insulte devant la DRH. Le collègue raciste a nié avoir tenu de tels propos, mais, chose curieuse, il s'est aussi excusé. Résultat de l'enquête interne, quelques semaines plus tard, j'ai une réunion avec la DRH qui me dit : "Il y a des choses dans le dossier, merci de nous avoir prévenus." En gros : "On va lui tirer l'oreille." "Notre objectif, c'est de te garder", poursuivent-ils... avant d'achever : "Mais on ne voit pas d'autres solutions, il va falloir que tu travailles sous ses ordres."
La suite s'est déroulée par mail. La direction m'a écrit que, dans cette affaire, il y avait "absence de réelle gravité". Que "M. X s'était en outre excusé." Je préviens la direction que je fais appel à un avocat. Et que je refuse toujours le poste. On me répond que j'ai une attitude irresponsable. Puis en novembre, un courrier : devant mon entêtement, un licenciement à mon encontre est envisagé. Ils me demandent de ne pas revenir à mon bureau. Je reviens quand même. "Tu es en insubordination caractérisée, pars tout de suite", me menace-t-on. La DRH me prévient : "Si tu t'obstines, nous ferons appel à un tiers." Je n'ai pas eu envie de quitter l'entreprise entre deux videurs. Les syndicats m'ont dit que c'était déjà arrivé à d'autres ex-salariés. Je suis parti. J'ai été licencié pour faute : refus de poste. J'ai déposé un dossier à la Halde, la Haute Autorité de lutte contre les discriminations.
Mon entreprise a signé la Charte de la diversité. Vous savez, celle qui engage les sociétés à respecter des principes de non-discrimination...»

Le LC des Croisades .... Réference !!!

« Le Grousset » comme l’appellent les initiés (de René Grousset) ; C’est l’ouvrage le plus complet, le plus détaillé, le plus renseigné sur le sujet et à la fois probablement le moins objectif. Il entretien une fascination, un engouement certain pour la conquête et une nostalgie et un regret évident face à la chute. Une franche sympathie Capétienne et un vrai rejet de l’esprit des Pèlerins des générations suivantes, sans parler d’une critique très négative de l’Empire Byzantin et beaucoup de réserves sur les Plantagenet.
Malgré tout il s’agit bien de la référence en la matière. A lire, à relire, à consulter régulièrement, à reprendre etc…..

A noter que le même auteur a signé plusieurs ouvrages tout aussi référents comme Histoire de l’Arménie, ou L’Empire du Levant.

Combien tu touches, Alexandre Adler ? Combien la Turquie debourse-t'elle pour te faire ecrire cela ?

Malheureusement publié le 27 janvier 2007 dans "Le Figaro", le dernier "torchon" d'Alexandre Adler, adepte reconnu du panturquisme, amene une question: Combien tu touches, salopard ?
Combien tu touches pour parler des "terribles massacres de Turcs lors des guerres balkaniques, dans le Caucase, et surtout lors de l’effondrement global de l’Empire ottoman à partir de 1918".

Combien tu touches pour parler des "démocrates turcs" et de la "haute civilisation d’Istanbul".

Combien tu touches pour ecrire que l'Armenie est "un pays violent, agressif et inepte".

Comme tu es fourbe en invoquant la memoire de ton défunt ami le colonel général Haïdar Aliev, "Héros de l’Union soviétique, fils de mollah, excellent connaisseur de la poésie persane et patriote turc à la Mustafa Kemal, qui synthétisait ces courants culturels apparemment incompatibles, en tout cas aujourd’hui, en un espoir utopique pour demain : la grande alliance des trois cultures russe, turque et persane dans un nouvel ensemble producteur de laïcité et de démocratie". Les innombrables familles brisées, sur le territoire de l'ancienne URSS, par cet ex-chef du KGB apprecieront....

Il n'y a pas de mots pour vous decrire M. Adler. Et surtout, surtout, ne citez plus jamais publiquement la memoire de Hrant Dink pour justifier vos theories incultes et malhonnetes.

25th ANNIVERSARY LEGACY EDITION

Pas mal de temps que je souhaitais « blogger » la version 25éme anniversaire « collector edition » de London Calling. Alors OK il est dans les bacs depuis quelques années, je suis plus qu’à la bourre car ma position était : je ne vais pas me faire avoir par le marketing et payer le double pour un extrait vidéo et quelques démos. Quand j’ai su que les démos, c’était le Vanilla Tapes retrouvées ma curiosité l’a emportée. Rappel : Vanilla Tapes perdues avant l’enregistrement de London Calling que Mick Jones a retrouvées dans son garage.
Et là, la révélation : La patte de Guy Stevens le producteur de l’album. Rappel 2 : quand les fans de l’époque ont su que les Clash engageaient le producteur de Mott The Hoople et de Free, scandale.
En fait A l’écoute, ce qui me saute aux yeux ou aux oreilles, c’est que London Calling c’est Guy Stevens. Et là, après cette phrase les hard core fans deviennent dingues. Je m’explique Grim: En écoutant les démos, on s’aperçoit que London Calling aurait ressemblé aux 2 premiers albums. Cad de l’excellent Punk Rock plein d’énergie et de punch mais un album de plus dans la lignée des précédents. C’est le son et la production qui font de London Calling l’album des albums.
Il a été désigné meilleur album des années 1980 par le magazine américain Rolling Stone, en 2000. En mars 2004, l'hebdomadaire culturel français Télérama l'a désigné comme le meilleur album rock des cinquante dernières années.La photographie a été élue meilleure photographie de rock and roll de tous les temps par Q magazine, bien que le photographe ne voulait pas voir cette photo utilisée, la considérant comme mal cadrée (puisqu'au moment de prendre la photo, elle reculait pour éviter la basse de Simonon).
Vous savez ce que Joe a répondu lorsqu’on lui a demandé ce que ça lui faisait que London Calling soit désigné comme l’album des années ?
« On l’a enregistré en 1979 … » Voila pour moi les Clash, ça se résume à cette phrase.
Mais je terminerais sur une autre phrase non moins célèbre : « London Calling est le meilleur album de l’histoire du rock, mais le meilleur album des Clash c’est Sandinista »

A la fin de la séquence, quelqu'un crie qu'il y a eu un casse dans la banque. Pas juste parce qu'il est l'ami des Arméniens (rappel: sa visite mythique en Hayastan l'été) dernier mais aussi parce qu'on aurait fait quoi sans lui entre Johan et Diego ?
Et puis bon 3 fois Ballon d'Or.... De plus il faut bien l'avouer il n'y a que dans ce sport où les seuls qui n'ont pas leur mot à dire et voix au chapitre sur les décisions importantes c'est le joueurs. Bon en même temps certains diraient: "ils sont trop tebés ....", mais en tout cas pas Platoche.
Alors même si je n'y crois pas une seconde (rapport au pouvoir de l'argent dans le Foot actuel): Platoche Président !!!
